After-School Program

Learning is not over when the bell rings! Students switch gears to take advantage of afternoon clubs and activities. Our extracurricular programs are designed to engage the various talents and interests of the ‘whole boy’, encouraging intellectual, athletic, artistic, moral, and spiritual growth. These unique experiences allow students to discover their most authentic selves, while developing genuine concern for others and confidence in the future.

Cooking Club

The Cooking Club meets once a week throughout the school year. Chef Ben works with a small group of students for five weeks at a time before rotating in a new group of students, ensuring intentional, hands-on instruction and meaningful engagement.

Students begin with foundational skills and progress to advanced culinary techniques, including baking and presentation. Along the way, they learn about nutrition, explore new recipes, practice safe use of kitchen tools/appliances, and discover farm-to-table principles and sustainable sourcing—building confidence, self-sufficiency, and a deeper appreciation for food and community.

Green Team

The San Miguel Green Team takes students out of the classroom and into the dirt as they learn to plant, nurture, and harvest a wide variety of seasonal plants, flowers, and vegetables!

Chess Club

The San Miguel Chess Club helps students enhance their strategic thinking, while advancing their skill set in both chess and life. Members are committed, regularly practicing at lunch and recess to prepare for after-school matches against their peers. Read more about chess club in the Providence Journal.

Scholar's Club

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students are encouraged to stay behind for homework assistance. Whether they need help on current material or desire the time to explore an interest further, our teachers joined by occasional volunteers help every step of the way.
