Mission and History

About San Miguel

Sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers and accredited by Association of Independent Schools in New England, San Miguel School of Providence serves boys of all cultures and faiths in grades 5–8.

Our students learn in a caring, structured environment where academics are rigorous, expectations are high, and individual talents are nurtured. Rooted in citizenship, service, and personal responsibility, San Miguel forms young men with a strong sense of purpose and a vision to create positive change in their communities.

Mission Statement

The San Miguel School, a Lasallian middle school, provides a high quality, holistic education for boys from diverse and challenging backgrounds.

In a caring, safe, and structured environment, we foster a spirit of mutual respect and brotherhood among all students. We walk with our students and their families throughout their educational journey at San Miguel and beyond.

Inspired by the pillars of faith, service, and community, each “Miguel Man” is encouraged to learn, to serve, and to grow to reach his full potential.

Our History

Founded in 1993 by Br. Lawrence Goyette, FSC, San Miguel School of Providence began with just three staff members and fourteen boys. Built to provide the structure, support, and close student-teacher relationships often missing in education, the school has grown into a thriving community serving 64 boys in grades 5–8.

Today, San Miguel stands as a model for ten similar schools nationwide—continuing its mission to “touch hearts and minds” and nurture the whole boy in a safe, enriching environment. For more information, read Bro. Lawrence Goyette’s story.
